Expert summary

Winnie-the-Pooh is the teddy bear found in the popular books written by the English author Alan Alexander Milne. The author had been a popular writer, noted as a playwright, when he became renowned as the creator of Pooh. Winnie-the-Pooh was published in 1926 and The House of Pooh Corner in 1928. The famous Pooh books by Milne are on a boy named Christopher Robin. The boy was named after his own son. The books were inspired by his son’s stuffed animals, most notably the bear named Winnie-the-Pooh. The bear, originally named Edward, was renamed after a Canadian black bear named Winnie used as a mascot on World War I. ‘The Pooh’ came from a swan called ‘Pooh.’

    A. A. Milne would be proud of the interpretation of his story and characters that will always live in the forest of imagination. Ernest H. Shepard's artwork makes this adventure is a visual delight. The characters represent archetypes to which children can identify and relate. As long as there are children and parents to read to them, Winnie the Pooh will remain a favorite storybook classic.

I first read Pooh as a child, when my mornings were spent with the Spotted or Herbaceous Backson, and my afternoons were spent doing Nothing. It was a good book then, which I really enjoyed.
